Variety Book Fair a monster event

THE Boardwalk Gallery at Wrest Point is set to be transformed into a veritable Aladdin’s Cave thanks to the Variety Monster Book Fair.

From 14-16 August, visitors will be able to purchase a wide range of pre-loved quality books, games, puzzles, CDs and DVDs, as well as look for their favourite authors, choose new titles and even indulge in some early Christmas shopping at bargain prices.

All proceeds from the event, which is hosted by Variety – The Children’s Charity, will go towards assisting Tasmanian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.

Variety Fair state manager Luke Doyle said during the past three months “wonderful people from the length and breadth of the state” had donated items especially for the Fair.

Mr Doyle said he was thrilled by the level of support shown during the development of the initiative.

“We have been astounded by the generosity of Tasmanians wanting to help,” he said.

“We estimate that we will have in the region of 15,000 books, as well as hundreds of DVDs and a wide selection of CDs, games and puzzles for people to choose from.”

Mr Doyle said the quality of donated items had been incredible.

“Whether shoppers’ interest lie in fiction or fantasy, cooking or crafts, gardening or geography, there will be something for everyone at the Variety Monster Book Fair,” he said.

The Variety Monster Book Fair will run from 10am-9pm on Friday 14 August, 9am-5pm on Saturday 15 August and 10am-4pm on Sunday 16 August.
