Tasmania Jewels lock-in marquee player

Tasmania Jewels lock in Steph Reid as a marquee Jewel after success in Europe and Asia.

Jewels Coach Claudia Brassard said signing Reid was a significant moment for the club.

“Steph brings a level of experience that is incredibly valuable for an expansion club and she’s exactly the type of player you build around,” she said.

“She is an elite athlete and relentless point guard but what stands out most is her resilience.

“Steph never made the state team as a junior, but she didn’t let her doubts define her and kept believing in herself to play harder.”

As a WNBL24 champion and an Australian Opal Steph said she was born a competitor who played bigger than her small stature.

“I’ve heard a lot about Tasmania punching above its weight and about the underdog mentality which I can relate to,” she said.

“To have this chance to build a culture and legacy as a team is exciting, it’s an amazing opportunity to connect with young Tassie girls and boys.

“Without a doubt I am here to win, to be at the top and to win the championship from year one, I think we have the makings to achieve that.”

The opportunity to purchase a Tasmania Jewels membership opens soon with the season set to start in October.

Jewels will play half their games in Hobart at the MyState Bank Arena and half in Launceston at the Silverdome.
