Tasmania attracts a host of national sporting championships

THE 2013 Women’s Australian Hockey League (AHL) Championships was the latest in a long line of major sporting events held recently in Tasmania.

The Minister for Tourism, Scott Bacon, said the Tasmanian Government’s support for hosting championships was proving a winner for the whole community.

“Thanks to support from Sport and Recreation Tasmania, sports such as hockey are increasingly able to attract these major tournaments to our shores,” he said.

“Sport and Recreation Tasmania has provided more than $30,000 to Hockey Tasmania is recent years from the NISC program, helping to secure a number of national and international tournaments.

“Given the number and size of these vents, and the flow-on benefits, that money is well spent.”

Tasmania hosted the Women’s AHL Championships in Hobart from September 27 to October 5.
