Support Tasmania’s palliative care champions

PALLIATIVE Care Tasmania is encouraging Tasmanians to recognise the extraordinary people who make a difference at the most difficult times in people’s lives by nominating them for the 2026 Tasmanian Palliative Care Awards.
Palliative Care Tasmania chief executive officer Heather Kent said the Awards provided an important opportunity to celebrate the people whose compassion often goes above and beyond.
“These Awards are about recognising those who make an incredible difference every single day,” she said.
“We know there are many stories of kindness, innovation and dedication across Tasmania and we encourage everyone to take the time to nominate someone who deserves to be celebrated.”
As a long-time supporter of the awards, The District Nurses is again sponsoring the ‘Joy Coghlan’ Tasmanian Palliative Care Honour Roll, which recognises Tasmanians who have made an outstanding contribution to palliative care throughout their career.
The District Nurses CEO Benjamin Jardine said palliative care professionals, volunteers and carers often worked quietly behind the scenes, making an enormous difference to individuals and families during some of life’s most challenging moments.
“Palliative care is centred on helping people live with comfort, dignity and the best possible quality of life, while also supporting the families and loved ones around them,” he said.
“Many of these people never seek recognition for what they do, but their impact on our community is immeasurable.
“These awards are an opportunity to thank them and ensure their contribution is remembered.”
Mr Jardine said The District Nurses was proud to continue supporting the Honour Roll, which recognised the dedication of individuals who had shaped palliative care in Tasmania.
“At The District Nurses, we’ve been caring for Tasmanians in their homes for almost 130 years, and we know that great care is built on compassion, professionalism and genuine human connection.”
“The Honour Roll celebrates those qualities and the people who have devoted their lives to improving the experience of others.
“We encourage anyone who knows someone deserving to take the time to nominate them.”
The 2026 Tasmanian Palliative Care Awards will be presented during the Palliative Care Tasmania Conference at Wrest Point on 9 September, with nominations closing on 10 July.
The awards recognise individuals, volunteers, teams and organisations making a meaningful contribution to palliative care across the state.
The 2026 award sponsors include CarersTas/Care2Serve, Public Trustee, ALA Partners, One Care, Caring@home, Queen Victoria Care and The District Nurses.
