Success brewing for enigmatic Tassie beer

TASMANIAN International Beerfest and award-winning brewery Moo Brew – MONA’s premium craft beer brand – have joined forces to mark Beerfest’s 10th anniversary with an exclusive limited edition beer.
The one-of-a-kind “Macquarie Enigma” will be brewed using 100 per cent Tasmanian content including Macquarie Barley and Enigma Hops.
Moo Brew head brewer and general manager Dave Macgill said Hop Products Australia’s new release would give the Macquarie Enigma beer “a light body and unique hop aroma”.
“The single malt and single hop approach is the simplest way to showcase the raw materials in the brewing process – not complicating the malt palate by using speciality malts and allowing the hop aroma to come to the forefront,” he said.
The recent brew day, attended by hop and barley growers and hospitality industry executives, was the culmination of months of planning and taste testing, with guests assisting in the brewing of the beer.
Tasmanian International Beerfest festival director Ben Hickey said Macquarie Enigma would only be available in draught form at the Tasmanian Beerfest.
“Tasmanian fine beer and cider is finally taking its rightful place on the Tasmania epicurean palate and Macquarie Enigma will be the centerpiece of the 10th anniversary festival,” he said.
“Beer is the oldest of all the drinks developed by the human race, and there is an amazing taste adventure for those who love a great brew.
“It was not that long ago that the only beer that Australians were offered were relatively sweet lagers. Now there is a whole flavour spectrum for people to explore.
“More drinkers want to know the provenance of their beer – it’s not just any beer using locally grown barley, it’s the first all-Tasmanian-bred beer in a long time.”
Tasmanian International Beerfest will be held on Friday 14 November from 5pm to 11pm and Saturday 15 November from 12pm to 10pm at the Princes Wharf Shed No 1.
