Piecing together Cascades’ story

AS a sequel to the Cascades Female Factory site attaining World Heritage status, administration is seeking information on the site’s use in later years when various businesses operated there.

Known operations included Tip Top Paints, Marine Services, a fudge factory, a fruit processing plant, and an industrial storage area, alongside private residences.

There are also some details of wine producer Sorrento Wines and Leabrook Tennis operating on-site.

Anyone with information can contact manager Greta McDonald by phoning 6233 6553, emailing greta.mcdonald@femalefactory.org.au or writing to Cascades Female Factory, 16 Degraves Street, South Hobart 7004.

The Cascades Female Factory was added to the World Heritage list in 2010, one of 11 historic places around Australia that forms the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage property.
