A NEW-look Franklin Square has been unveiled in Hobart following a major six-month refurbishment.
The revamp included the reconstruction of pathways, pavements, walls and stairs, the installation of new park and feature lighting, as well as specific commissioned furniture, with some additional pieces to be installed in the coming weeks.
Hobart Lord Mayor Sue Hickey said she was thrilled that the works were now complete.
“The refurbishment delivers our vision to transform Franklin Square into Hobart’s civic park and provides for a destination to gather, relax and play,” she said.
“Our hope and plan for this wonderful city park is that the Hobart community will return to enjoy its unique and beautiful features again.
“After all, it is a park for use by everyone, a place to meet friends and enjoy lunch and a venue for activities and events.”
The refurbishment was one of the projects in the council’s “Inner City Action Plan” that forms part of the council’s commitment to transform Hobart into a strong, vibrant and sustainable city.
The official opening of the park was celebrated with a launch ceremony held in May.
The free community event included a free fitness class, children’s activities and live music entertainment.
