A SMALL homewares and design store on Hobart’s Castray Esplanade has been catapulted into the national spotlight after being named the first-ever “Retailer of the Year” at the annual Gift and Life Instyle Awards (GALA).
Lucy Given, owner of LUC. Design, will now go head-to-head against other retail and design professionals at the International Housewares Association (IHA) Global Innovation Awards, held in Chicago in March 2017.
Ms Given, who has 25-years’ experience in both residential and commercial interior design and retail, said she was “thrilled” to have received the title of Retailer of the Year.
“It is such an honour to have achieved national recognition and be able to represent Australia at the Global Innovation Awards in Chicago,” she said.
The Hobart local, who established the retail space in 2013, said it was a challenge for small business-owners to remain competitive and unique in a small state like Tasmania.
“The GALA awards have helped my business and its growth, as well as provided a platform to be able to inspire people to love great design and make beautiful homewares part of everyday life,” she said.
LUC. Design is the “go to” destination for a curated selection of international, iconic and well-designed products not previously available in Tasmania.
HIA Gala Innovation Awards foster innovation and excellence in housewares retailing around the world.
