BUPA’S South Hobart aged care team have been recognised at the inaugural 2017 Tasmanian Palliative Care Awards.

The team were commended for their excellence, talent and care in the community, taking home the award for Innovation in Palliative Care.

Bupa general practitioner Dr Libby Monks was celebrated for her extraordinary and person-first care with the Excellence in Aged Care Award and the Outstanding Palliative Care Clinician Award.

Bupa’s clinical manager Sarah Gaffney was also named an Emerging Leader Award finalist.

South Hobart’s general manager David Neal said he was “rapt” with his team’s efforts.

“I am incredibly proud of my team,” he said.

“These awards are a culmination of a lot of passion and hard work by all staff in terms of best practice and innovative palliative care.

“This passion was sparked by Dr Libby Monks, our on-site Bupa GP, who instigated a number of initiatives to measure and improve on our palliative care practices and support to residents, families and staff.”

Dr Libby Monks acknowledged the hard work of Bupa’s South Hobart team to become a centre for clinical excellence in residential aged care.

“The Tasmanian Palliative Aged Care awards we have won this year are a reflection of the hard work we have done in achieving this goal,” she said.

“I am so proud of everyone in our team.

“Over the past 18-months, we have had a huge amount of positive feedback from our residents and families about the quality of care they are receiving at Bupa South Hobart.

“Families are now seeking us out to ensure that their family member can have the opportunity of being cared for at Bupa South Hobart.”
