Hobart welcomes first fenced dog exercise area

THE City of Hobart is creating a new fenced, off-lead dog walking area at John Turnbull Park in Lenah Valley and would like to know what residents think of the design.

Dog groups and the athletics club have been involved in the creation of the design, but the City would now like to hear from the broader community.

A lower section of the open park area next to the oval will be fenced for off-lead exercising, which means all dogs being exercised outside the enclosure must be on the lead.

In addition to the fencing, the City will also install airlock gates, dog play structures and seating for owners, as well as plant new trees.

Fenced dog exercise areas are also on the radar for Mt Stuart and Wellesley parks, but the City will monitor the operation of the John Turnbull facility before making proposals for other areas.
