Hadley’s Orient Hotel open for business

A $2 million refurbishment, an expert team of architects and designers and a dedicated staff have restored Hadley’s Orient Hotel to its former glory.

Hadley’s Hotel chief executive officer Jon Lister said when the Woolstore Apartment Hotel purchased Hadley’s in September 2013, the property was in a “reasonably poor state”.

Mr Lister said the group saw plenty of potential in the “old lady.”

“We formed an advisory panel with the vision to make Hadley’s the best restored heritage hotel in Australia,” he said.

The panel comprised heritage architect Graeme Corney, architect Peter Giblin, project manger Patrick Stanton, Detour Design’s Kim Barker, Woolstore Apartments owner Don Neil and Mr Lister.

“The investment in this hotel not only shows the commitment and confidence we have in the Hobart tourism market but the belief that the hotel holds a unique position in the Hobart accommodation market,” Mr Lister said.

Hadley’s 71 accommodation rooms have been fully restored with five-star bedding, and have been recarpeted and refurnished.

The hotel will now serve “high teas” seven-days-a-week and its seven function rooms can host a wide range of occasions including weddings, conferences and parties.

Mr Lister said the new team had “fun” restoring Hadley’s.

“I remember walking through the property on the first few days of ownership and having to nearly buy-out K&D Warehouse of its buckets given the number of leaks we had in the atrium roof,” he said.

“It was also ironic that the day we sent the invitations out for the relaunch celebration the “wind gods” blew the roof off.”

Mr Lister said the Hadley’s team were extremely excited about the future.

“Stage two of the restoration is planned over the next few years and our long-term objective is to have colonial art displayed in the rooms,” he said.

“We are working with the Tasmanian Government to achieve that..

“Many people have been involved in the restoration and many will be a part of future renovations, and I would like to thank them all for their contributions.”

Hadley’s Orient Hotel is located at 34 Murray Street Hobart.
