Full speed ahead for Hobart Twilight Market

THE first regular Hobart Twilight Market has recently been granted approval for operation from the Hobart City Council.
The inaugural market will be held at Long Beach in Sandy Bay on Friday 3 October 2014.
Justin Davies and Matthew Wise, who form the market management team, said they were excited to now start processing more than 70 expressions of interest for stalls which they have received from local businesses.
“We are looking forward to bringing together some fantastic, passionate Tasmanian businesses in such a beautiful beachside location that is Long Beach,” they said.
“This market will have a balanced selection of gourmet food, wine, beer and cider businesses, and art, craft and design, along with health and fitness businesses and selection of local tourism operators.”
The market will operate from 4 to 8pm every second Friday between October and March.
The market operating hours were designed to accommodate local residents and tourists who may not be able to visit a traditional weekend market.
The location will also allow visitors to bring a picnic rug and chairs to enjoy a beachside dinner or just to relax.
The market will provide an undercover bicycle valet service for those wishing to arrive by bike, which will enable the utilisation of the dedicated bicycle lanes recently opened along Sandy Bay Road.
Dog owners will also be catered for with a reserved “dog chill out zone” providing water and an area free to tether dogs safely while experiencing the market.
Each market will have a particular focus, which may be live music, a dance performance or yoga class.
Children’s live music and face painting will also be on offer.
The Hobart Twilight Market will allocate two complimentary spaces at each event for not-for-profit organisations and two spaces for “pop-up” shops from larger businesses.
The other spaces will be shared among food, beverage and designer stalls.
