From the editor
SINCE establishing the Hobart Observer newspaper, the team at Corporate Communications, a Tasmanian-owned communications consultancy, has been working hard to ensure we deliver grass roots news relevant to our community.
Our consultancy is experienced in publishing community newspapers – we also own and produce the Eastern Shore Sun and the Glenorchy Gazette which we purchased from Business East and the Glenorchy City Council respectively.
When combined, our suite of publications reach more than 75,000 individual homes and businesses across the Glenorchy, Hobart, Clarence and parts of the Sorell municipalities.
We strongly believe there is a market for community newspapers in Tasmania, operating independently alongside the state’s three daily metropolitan papers.
While these daily papers do an excellent job delivering Tasmanian, national and international news, we deliberately focus on local concerns, providing local information.
Our newspapers are a medium through which members of the Hobart community can learn about local, grassroots events and activities and traditionally focus on issues that are “feel-good” and positive.
An important factor in the success and longevity of community newspapers is ongoing readership support.
With this in mind, we welcome all editorial and photo contributions, and are always open to consider story ideas that you, our readers, consider worthy of coverage.
Also, community-based papers like the Hobart Observer are not classified as “junk mail” and are exempt from non-addressed mail restrictions on direct mail-outs and letterbox drops.
