Developing skills for life

ST Michael’s Collegiate School is a leading early learning to year 12 Anglican school for girls.

Renowned for delivering a contemporary education, Collegiate has been a pioneer in its commitment to supporting young women in developing their pathways for the future.

It offers three separate campuses to best cater for students as they progress through different developmental stages.

The purpose-built middle school offers a dynamic learning environment, tailored to the needs of girls in years five to eight.

The campus provides a safe and secure setting that caters for the personal and educational requirements of pre-adolescent and adolescent girls.

The middle school program inspires creativity, encourages independence, supports cooperation and achievement and ensures students are engaged and enjoy learning.

Students are expected to reflect upon, begin to control and understand how to self-regulate their social, emotional, spiritual, physical and intellectual needs.

Decision-making skills, taking and using initiative and learning to lead are also central to the middle school experience and ensure students are well prepared for senior school.

The middle school offers students opportunities that encourage innovation, imagination and inquiry skills.

Together with a rich core curriculum, girls are invited to study subjects including foreign languages, visual arts, music, drama and dance, as well as a variety of co-curricular activities.

At Collegiate, teachers work collegially to support the differing and changing needs of all students.

It recognises that middle school girls are in an exciting stage and their needs (although different for each individual) are quite specific.

Teachers assist each student to explore their own learning styles, develop a growth mindset, develop 21st century skills and to understand themselves – both for academic achievement and personal wellbeing.

A focus on independence with teachers taking on a more mentoring approach to learning is central to middle schooling.
