Bigger and better than ever – Myer re-opens

SALES registers will be joining the Christmas chorus and local businesses can expect a much welcomed shot of retail therapy thanks to the launch of the new 8,800 square-metre, five-level, $100 million Myer Hobart store.

Thousands of people attended the launch day of the revitalised store on Liverpool Street, which was officially opened by model and Myer ambassador Jennifer Hawkins.

Myer Hobart store manager Peter Monachetti said the opening of the new store was a highlight of his 36-year career with Myer.

“Approximately 300 Myer staff and brand partners have worked more than 8000 man hours around the clock in days leading up to the opening to ensure the store was sparkling for our customers,” he said.

“We have around 230 extremely passionate, hard-working and committed store team members who were thrilled to open the doors of the new Myer Hobart for the first time.

“We have recruited and trained 90 new local employees including 48 Christmas casuals, who will work across our five new floors and the magical “Christmas Giftorium”.”

Myer chief merchandise and marketing officer Daniel Bracken, said the opening of the new Myer store marked an exciting time for the company’s Hobart customers.

“We are bringing elements of our new Myer strategy to our Hobart store to bring a whole new shopping experience to the local community,” he said.

“For the first time ever, we are bringing a range of new brands to Hobart customers including French Connection, Tiger Mist and the very popular Benefit Brow Bar.

“The new store will also offer the latest omni-channel technology with the launch of “The Myer Hub” which provides a range of in-store services in one convenient location including personal stylists, “Click & Collect”, “Shop and Drop”, gift registry, free Wi-Fi, and a smart phone recharge station.”

Premier Will Hodgman said “hurdle after hurdle” had been overcome by those closely involved in the Myer project.

“These people can be proud of what they have achieved with the opening of a great signature store,” he said.

“Many people have made this possible and I want to congratulate and thank the Kalis Group, Hutchison Builders and the many other Tasmanian sub-contractors that have contributed to this project.

“I also want to thank the Myer team members who have been working around the clock to ensure its opening success.”
