Albuera Street Primary kicks goals in national competition
ALBUERA Street Primary School has earned second place in the grade four section of the national AFL Quiz competition.
Designed for students in grades three-to-six, the Australian-wide quiz covers maths, English, geography and science topics.
It is called the “AFL Quiz” because it is modelled on the AFL premiership season, starting with a pre-season quiz followed by three competitive rounds and concluding with an exclusive final series.
At the end of the qualifying rounds, Albuera’s team of three, “LETSTHINK”, came in eighth.
LETSTHINK tied for first with the same number of correct answers in the finals. However, because of the opponents’ faster completion time, finished second.
Albuera Street Primary School teacher Grant Williams said Calvin Christian School did equally well in a different age division.
“This is pretty good for Tassie kids,” he said. “The Albuera students are elated about the win and the $100 voucher has certainly made them smile.”
The national AFL Quiz aims to test students’ Australian football knowledge while developing their literacy, numeracy, science and IT skills.
Hundreds of teachers throughout Australia integrate the AFL Quiz into their teaching and learning programs.
The quiz questions are linked to the new National Curriculum and complement the current NAPLAN testing programs.
