A purple hurricane is about to hit

IT is time to dust off your bats and gloves because cricket season is almost here.

Tasmania is currently preparing for the fifth edition of the KFC T20 Big Bash League (BBL05), which is expected to the biggest one yet.

The Hobart Hurricanes will once again paint the town purple over the December/January holiday period with some of the biggest names in world cricket coming to Tasmania’s shores to entertain big crowds for BBL05.

Sri Lankan superstar Kumar Sangakkara, who is regarded as one of the best batsmen of all time, will join local favourites George Bailey, Tim Paine and Ben Dunk at the Hurricanes this season.

West Indian Darren Sammy is also making a return to the Hurricanes after leaving a big impression last season.

Fans are in for a treat with four home matches at Blundstone Arena again this summer, with the Hurricanes hosting Brisbane Heat (22 December) Sydney Thunder (1 January), Melbourne Renegades (4 January) and Perth Scorchers (10 January).

Hobart Hurricanes general manager Michael Roberts said he predicted another big summer full of entertaining cricket and family fun, and encouraged Tasmanians to once again get behind their team this season.

“We are really excited about the upcoming season,” he said.

“We have some big names stepping out for the Hurricanes for BBL05 and a ticket to a Hurricanes match will be the hottest ticket in town.

“Hurricanes matches provide fantastic entertainment for the whole family over the Christmas/New Year period and it is always great to see kids and adults alike having fun at our games.”

Mr Roberts said the Hurricanes continued to gain great support from locals with crowds of around 15,000 people expected for each of the home fixtures.

“It is always a great atmosphere at Blundstone Arena and our team love playing in front of a big home crowd so we hope to see all of Tasmania turn out in their purple to support the Hurricanes this season.”

Hobart Hurricanes memberships are now on sale and are available for purchase at www.hobarthurricanes.com.au.

Individual match day tickets go on sale on 20 October via www.bigbash.com.au
