HOBART residents witnessed an adorable sight earlier this month when a group of Hawthorn Football Club players joined Guide Dog Tasmania puppies and their trainers for an exercise session.
The event, which took place at the Farmgate Market in Mathers Lane, was part of Hawthorn Football Club’s partnership with Guide Dogs Tasmania to raise awareness of the importance of puppy raising.
Pooches and their trainers enjoyed a fun afternoon of games, grooming and health checks with the sports stars.
Spectators also had the opportunity to meet the players, pat the pups and learn about volunteer Puppy Raising for Guide Dogs Tasmania.
Guide Dogs Tasmania’s Kate Grady said only very special pups became guide dogs and they were in need of a strong team with them every step of the way.
“Puppy raising is a rewarding and highly respected role in the community,” she said.
“We are looking for people, who live within 20 kilometres of Hobart’s CBD with plenty of time to give the pup, to become part of our team.
“Become a volunteer puppy raiser or boarder for Guide Dogs Tasmania and you will change lives.”
