THE OHA Hockey Club is celebrating its centenary in 2019 – and has planned a number of events to mark the historic and important occasion.
A centenary gala dinner has been booked for PW1 on 19 October and a 100-year history book is being written by life member Robyn McCambridge, to be launched at the start of the 2020 season.
An OHA club day will be held on Saturday 29 June at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre (THC) during which all senior men’s and women’s teams will play games.
This has not happened for some time as games are normally played across the whole weekend.
The club is planning to have an “entire club” photo taken during the club day that will feature prominently in the centenary book.
There will also be a “huge but casual” social event at the THC that evening to celebrate the club’s achievement, featuring a centenary auction that will include 100 prizes with a starting value of $100.
A live auction will feature 10 major items of significance.
OHA president David McCambridge said OHA had a proud history worthy of celebrating.
“A centenary sub-committee has been working behind the scenes for nearly four years to ensure our 100th year is celebrated in style and involves current and past members and friends of our club,” he said.
“Spreading the word about the celebrations is critically important to encourage maximum participation on and off the field.
“We are working hard to ensure that everyone knows what’s happening and doesn’t miss the opportunity to be a part of this important event.”
The 2019 southern hockey season will commence on the weekend of 16 March.
