Tasmania better prepared for upcoming fire season

THE recently-released Tasmanian Bushfire Season Outlook confirms that, despite the dry winter, the majority of the state will experience normal fire potential for the upcoming fire season.

The Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Rene Hidding, said the last thing anyone wanted was for a fire to threaten themselves, their family or their property.

Mr Hidding said the Tasmanian Government had invested $55 million to significantly increase fuel reduction burning across Tasmania since the last election.

“This spring, the Tasmania Fire Service will continue to take every opportunity to conduct fuel reduction burns to reduce the bushfire risk even further,” he said.

“The outlook released recently is a testament to the program’s success, but we know more needs to be done to make Tasmania an even safer place to live and raise a family.”

Mr Hidding urged the Tasmanian public to heed the advice of Tasmania’s emergency services to ensure they were as well prepared as possible in the event of a bushfire.
